JCPenney Focuses on Black Health and Wellness this February

JCPenney strives to make a positive impact on our associates, customers, and communities. We’ve been nationally recognized for our diverse workforce, we serve American families with inclusive sizing and adaptive fashion and apparel, and we invest in partnerships that make a difference.

Each February, Black History Month gives us a special opportunity to recognize organizations and amplify voices that celebrate Black heritage, communities, and culture. JCPenney will participate in this year’s Black History Month observance with experiences that focus on the 2022 national theme: Black Health and Wellness.

A Purchase with Purpose

JCPenney has launched the Hope & Wonder™ Black History Month collection with items ranging from inclusive size sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, and baby onesies to home accessories like mugs, notebooks, and planners.

In keeping with our proud philanthropic heritage, 100% of net profits from the Hope & Wonder Black History Month collection will be donated to Black Girls Smile (BGS). BGS is a nonprofit organization that provides young women and girls in the Black community with the education, resources, and support they need to lead mentally healthy lives.

Growing and Learning from our Partners

JCPenney and BGS will partner throughout the year, starting with a Company-wide event for our associates to learn more about the BGS mission, get an inside look at the inspiration behind the Hope & Wonder Black History Month collection, and hear perspectives from Black leaders. The panel discussion, ‘Mind, Body, Soul: 2022 Black History Month at JCPenney, a Conversation with Black Girls Smile,’ will feature:

  • Lauren Carson, executive director of Black Girls Smile
  • Ayanna Abrams, licensed clinical psychologist and Black Girls Smile board member
  • Ka’Milah Ledgester, 2021 Young, Gifted, & Black Design Challenge winner
  • Brandi Wallace, JCPenney design director of kids

Join Us – A Discussion About Black Beauty

JCPenney invites you to watch JCP Live on Feb. 9 at 12 p.m. CST. The event features Nyakio Greico, co-founder of inclusive e-commerce beauty site, Thirteen Lune, and founder of nyakio™ Beauty.

Greico will share her perspective on the importance of meeting unique beauty, health, and wellness needs and how the Thirteen Lune partnership with JCPenney Beauty helps advance this mission.

Black Associates and Allies Making a Difference

The events with BGS and Greico will be hosted and moderated by members of JCPenney’s MOSAIC Business Resource Team (BRT). This network of diverse, multicultural Black associates and allies are dedicated to recruiting, retaining, mentoring, and empowering Black associates. Members also focus on increasing representation through our brands, products, partnerships, supplier diversity, community outreach, volunteering, and ongoing education programs.
