JCPenney Highlights Ongoing Sustainability Efforts this Earth Day

For more than five decades, Earth Day has brought awareness to the most pressing environmental issues of our time. While we celebrate this movement each year on April 22, JCPenney works year-round to reduce the impact of our global operations and serve as a responsible corporate citizen through our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) program.

JCPenney has made a long-term commitment to fight climate change and protect public health through energy efficiency. This Earth Day, we are proud to announce that JCPenney is a recipient of the 2021 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award and highest honor bestowed by the ENERGY STAR program from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.

JCPenney was first selected as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year in 2007 and has been recognized consecutively over the last 15 years for the Company’s commitment to energy conservation. This year, we improved our average ENERGY STAR score by 25% and reduced total greenhouse gas emissions by 22.8%. Accounting for the same number of buildings as the previous year, our facilities and maintenance teams reduced overall energy use.

Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Commitment
