Our hearts are with those affected by the multiple wildfires in California this year. With 75 JCPenney stores located across the state, thousands of our customers and associates call California home.
Currently, all JCPenney stores remain open and are focused on serving the needs of our customers. Our stores in Chico and Yuba City, communities impacted by the recent Camp Fire, provided a discount to local residents who quickly needed to replenish basic clothing and home essentials. The store’s salon stylists also offered local evacuees a complimentary shampoo and blow dry.
Meanwhile, we were devastated to learn that 44 of our associates were impacted by the Camp Fire, with 13 associates reporting total loss of their homes, including the general manager of our Chico store. Our teams across JCPenney worked diligently to deploy our Immediate Response Program, which provided these associates with rapid recovery funding to cover personal expenses related to emergency evacuation, basic supplies, home displacement, etc. Associates impacted by the wildfires will also have access to financial assistance from the Golden Rule Relief Fund, a program that provides support to JCPenney associates who are dealing with repairing or rebuilding their homes following a natural disaster.
With the increasing threat of wildfires to communities across California, earlier this year JCPenney made a $50,000 donation to the American Red Cross designated to assisting victims of California wildfires with food, shelter and basic necessities. We invite you to join in our support by donating to the American Red Cross – any amount will make a significant difference in helping our communities, customers and associates during this difficult time.
