JCPenney Issues Black Friday Statement

JCPenney kicked off the holiday season at 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving when stores opened to lines of anxious customers ready to score deals during one of the Company’s biggest Black Friday events ever. The Company’s Black Friday deals were a big draw for shoppers this year, encouraging many of our best and newest customers to make JCPenney their first stop for holiday shopping.

Hundreds – and, in some cases, thousands – of shoppers lined up outside our stores for popular items such as the cooks air fryer, Xersion puffer jackets, diamond jewelry and smart watches, Nike athletic apparel and shoes, and toys. Strong performance within home, fine jewelry and beauty also reinforced the Company’s focus on key growth initiatives. Today, we’re continuing to attract Black Friday shoppers through popular high-ticket sales items, such as a $499.99 Samsung UHD television, $199.99 Playstation 4 console, appliances and more.

Online traffic was up double digits this week, with mobile accounting for the majority of visits to jcp.com. Traffic peaked on Thanksgiving day, with the site receiving more visits than any other day this year. Top selling items online for the week include diamond jewelry, furniture, refrigerators, TVs, pajamas and towels.

While it’s still early in the season, the Company is encouraged by store and jcpenney.com traffic, and plans to continue this momentum throughout the holiday.
