Every Mile Counts: JCPenney Earns 2020 SmartWay Excellence Award, Continuing Focus on Sustainability Efforts

JCPenney is proud to be recognized for environmental performance in freight delivery and management with a 2020 SmartWay Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The award recognizes companies for collaborating with SmartWay freight and delivery carriers to move products in the cleanest, most energy-efficient way possible, all while reducing greenhouse gas and other harmful emissions.

SmartWay Excellence awardees represent the top 1-2 percent of all companies participating in EPA’s SmartWay program, which provides its partners with an integrated set of EPA-tested tools to make informed transportation choices and improve freight efficiency and environmental performance.

“We take great pride in our partnership with SmartWay and are pleased to be recognized for our leadership and work in reducing harmful emissions,” said Rick Musil, director of transportation at JCPenney. “We understand the gravity of our responsibility to the environment and look forward to continuing to be part of this sustainable solution.”

As we continue to implement the Plan for Renewal at JCPenney, we realize the power we have to help preserve the planet and its precious resources for current and future generations. By reducing emissions, becoming more energy-efficient, and optimizing transportation to reduce fuel consumption, we are helping stem the Company’s impact on the environment.
